Personal Challenges
We all have challenges at each stage of our life. Sometimes we take these challenges in stride but other times they leave us feeling out-of-sorts, insecure, anxious, or depressed. Some challenges are more difficult than others but when they happen to us, they can feel intense and even overwhelming. I've listed below some of the challenges experienced by people who have come to me for individual counseling:
- Chronic anxiety
- Sudden onset of panic attacks
- Loneliness
- Dealing with chronic illness or disability
- Procrastination
- Lack of direction
- Past traumatic experience
- Dissatisfaction with current social life or occupation
- Too much change
- Failure to launch or moving back to parents' home
- Social anxiety
- General unhappiness
- Trouble breaking unhealthy habits
- Repeatedly choosing the wrong partner
- Low self esteem
- Troubled relationship with friend or relative
- Making contact with birth parent or child relinquished through adoption
- Recent move to the area
- Dealing with an "empty nest"
- Finding meaning
- Spiritual crisis
Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. Oftentimes friends and relatives are just too close to your situation. Individual counseling can free you, reduce your stress, and help you get back the confidence you once had.
