I post this tip annually because I believe it is an important reminder to us all!
It's been some year. Anxiety and stress have been an everyday staple for many of us. If we, or our loved ones haven't suffered from changing circumstances, we know those who have. Yet, if you are like most of us, you're ready to jump into the holiday season, "business as usual."
But you do have a choice. Self care for you this year can be deciding to be proactive and mindful of how you want to celebrate your holidays, not over-doing like you may have in the past. By choosing to simplify some of what you do, you can save energy for only that which is meaningful to you and your loved ones.
To do this, take some time to make a list of the special holiday memories or activities you have enjoyed in the past. Build your holiday celebration around these. Each time you find yourself feeling stressed or exhausted contemplating your holiday preparations, see if your plans appear on the list. It they don't, eliminate them. Self care is your choice to do, or not do stress-inducing, energy-zapping celebrations.
One more thing...if you, or someone you know, has experienced a loss this year, you might find an article I wrote several years ago helpful. When the Holidays Will Never be the Same offers suggestions to make the holiday season a little less painful.
