This week's tip is to take 20 minutes of your time and listen to Brene Brown's profound presentation at a TED Conference.
Brene's Listening to Shame, suggests that vulnerability is not a weakness. In fact, it is "our most accurate measurement of courage."
Many of us have been taught from an early age, not to be vulnerable. We have been told that if people know what we perceive as weakness in ourselves, that they will take advantage of it. Yet, what Brene tells us is that, "vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change."
I know from my experience with myself, friends, and definitely from my clients, that people put up walls when they feel vulnerable. In some instances those walls provide necessary protection. In many cases however, those walls (our protection from what we fear), prevent us from experiencing ourselves and our relationships at their best.
Brene says it so much better than I, so do yourself a favor, watch this presentation as a form of self care.
