For most of my life, yellow was my favorite color. A couple of years ago I realized that yellow had been replaced with aqua. I was stunned that something I had held as a truth had changed.
In the scheme of things, a favorite color is not that important. Yet, like colors, beliefs about ourselves, held for as long as we can remember, can change too. Take a few minutes to consider if you have changed your mind about the following:
- Are you a morning or evening person?
- Do you prefer parties to intimate gatherings?
- One long vacation to many long weekends?
- Perfectionist or more laid back?
- Optimist or Pessimist?
- Lucky or unlucky?
- Leader or follower?
Of course, most of the above are one way or another and many times we fall in between. The key is to be aware that preferences and the way we see ourselves can change. Assuming we always are one way can hold us back from feeling comfortable in our skin.
Self care is about examining if what you assume about yourself is correct and if it isn't, giving yourself permission to change your mind.
